Welcome!
Thank you for your interest in our program. We are delighted to help you explore the possibility of conversion to Judaism. Our mandate is to give you the support you need and treat you with absolute dignity and sensitivity. We hope you find your experiences with the program enlightening and meaningful.
Conversion is more than a course of study; it requires a serious, life-long commitment. Successful candidates - and their partner, if applicable - will undergo a personal religious transformation and sincerely commit themselves to being Jewish and living an Orthodox Jewish lifestyle. In addition, successful candidates are expected to have integrated socially into an observant Jewish community where they will find the social support necessary for future Jewish growth.
This program is an official Member of the Rabbinical Council of America Geirut (conversion) Policies and Standards (GPS) Network (official website).
For all inquiries, appointments, or any other matter concerning our program, please contact Rabbi Michael Whitman, Yoshev Rosh - rabbi@adath.ca.
For all payments, banking information, or donations, please contact Rabbi Michael Whitman, Yoshev Rosh - rabbi@adath.ca.
UPDATE: June 12, 2023
We offer our deepest gratitude to our fellow Dayan, Geirut teacher, and integral person of RCA Geirut Montreal since our inception, Rabbi Eddie Shostak, on his move to Toronto. We wish Rabbi Shostak and his family Hatzalacha and joy in their new home!
We take this opportunity to re-engineer our program, to make it better, more responsive, and more efficient in helping people achieve their goal of Geirut according to the highest standards of Halacha.

Here is what will not change:
- We proudly remain the RCA (Rabbinical Council of America) Conversion Program - Montreal Region, upholding all aspects of the GPS (see full details here).
- Our Dayanim, except for Rabbi Shostak
- Our standards and requirements
- The global recognition of the validity of our conversion
- Regular meetings with everyone in our program, and our constant availability to help and support in any way we can.
- We will no longer offer a weekly class. Instead, each candidate (and partner if applicable) will be expected to choose a tutor/mentor with whom to study our curriculum. This tutor/mentor must be approved by us in advance.
- We will soon provide a list of recommended tutor/mentors, plus a detailed list of qualifications for anyone else to assume this role for you, including our curriculum, our expectations of what will be covered, best practices for how this relationship will develop, and a procedure for ongoing testing to insure our standards are being met.
- We will also provide requirements on the amount, length and manner of instruction. The current length of study, and in-person learning, will be required.
- We are confident these changes will better integrate candidates into the community into which they are converting, as hopefully the sponsoring rabbi and rebbetzin and/or someone else close to the community will be the tutor/mentor. Also, this new system will make the learning more convenient as it can be scheduled at the convenience of the student and tutor/mentor, as long as our requirements for the teaching are met.
- The fees we have listed on our website will change for those entering our program as of June, 2023. Any and all fees for the tutor/mentor will be between the candidate(s) and their chosen tutor/mentor, outside of our program.
- This website www.geirutmontreal.org is in the process of being updated with these changes, and it may take some time for these changes to be reflected there.
- For a number of years, Barbi Migicovsky has been our Geirut coordinator. On behalf of the Dayanim, present and past, and the Geirut participants, present and past, we offer deep gratitude and appreciation for all Barbi has done for us. For now, we say Shalom, Barbi, and thanks so much for all your hard work supporting Geirut! Moving forward, please contact Rabbi Whitman, rabbi@adath.ca, for any questions, meetings, scheduling, or any other aspect of Geirut.
